![]() Most computers have a lock screen that also shows helpful information to the user. This is called the "Windows Spotlight" and shows the user a different destination, for promotional purposes, each time he or she opens the computer. However, some models have the option to have a changing lock screen image, one that shows the user a different background every time, as on the Windows 7 lock screen and Windows 10 lock screen. Usually, this screen is one wallpaper, selected by the user, and is not changing to a different lock screen image each time. Many computers have lock screens that are unlocked using a password. These are usually unlocked by dragging in any direction and have added some animation effects to their unlocking mechanisms like an explosion, lens flare, or ripple effect. Other brands, like Samsung, also have an intelligent lock screen. Lock screen images were introduced, and the models continued to progress until the facial recognition that is used today. Then, Android changed to a new method of how to unlock the phone, which was more gesture-based. Now, Apple simply uses a fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock, which is a very helpful change in the opinion of many users.Īndroid phones, when they first came out, had a lock screen timeout and required the user to go into the menu to unlock the phone with a keyboard. The lock screen wallpaper is shown anytime the phone is touched before it is unlocked or disabled. ![]() In its earlier models (until iOS 7), the iPhone used the swipe in a similar fashion, both to unlock and turn off the phone. Most of these are utilized by some sort of interaction between the user and the screen, like a swipe or some taps. Whether it is for a smartphone or tablet, lock screens are an incredibly necessary feature on all devices.
